Popovych, Oleksander

Popovych, Oleksander [Попович, Олександер; Popovyč], b 28 May 1896 in Drabiv, Zolotonosha county, Poltava gubernia, d 29 January 1918 near Kruty, Nizhyn county, Chernihiv gubernia. Civic figure. During the First World War he was a student leader in Kyiv and a peasant organizer in the Kyiv region. He belonged to the Ukrainian Party of Socialist Revolutionaries. As the Bolsheviks invaded Ukraine at the beginning of 1918, he helped organize the Student Battalion of Sich Riflemen, and he died in its ranks at the Battle of Kruty.
