Rich, Vera

Rich, Vera (Rich, Faith Elizabeth Joan), b 24 April 1936 in London, d 20 December 2009 in London. English poet and translator; general secretary of the Anglo-Ukrainian Society in the 1950s and 1960s. Her poetry on Ukrainian themes appeared in her collections Outlines (1960) and Portents and Images (1963). She published her own poems, translations of Ukrainian poetry (by Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrainka, Hetman Ivan Mazepa, Markiian Shashkevych, the Neoclassicists, Olena Teliha, Emma Andiievska, and others), and a few articles in The Ukrainian Review and The Ukrainian Quarterly. Published separately were her translations Song of Darkness: Poems by Taras Shevchenko (1961), Lesya Ukrainka: Selected Works (1968), The Medvedev Papers (1971), and an anthology of Belarusian poetry (1971).
