Sementovsky, Kostiantyn

Sementovsky, Kostiantyn [Сементовський, Костянтин; Sementovs'kyj, Kostjantyn], b 10 April 1823 in Semenohirka, Zolotonosha county, Poltava gubernia, d 1902. Ethnographer; brother of Mykola Sementovsky and Oleksander Sementovsky. After graduating from the Nizhyn Lyceum (1839) he worked in the civil service in Chernihiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, and Orel. He maintained friendly ties with Izmail Sreznevsky, Amvrosii Metlynsky, Mykola Kostomarov, and Hryhorii Kvitka-Osnovianenko and collected ethnographic materials and folklore. In 1843 he published several articles, on Ukrainian folk beliefs, feast days, and Hryhorii Kvitka-Osnovianenko.
