Narodna hazeta (Winnipeg) («Народна газета»; People’s Newspaper). A pro-Communist newspaper and organ of the Ukrainian Labour-Farmer Temple Association, published daily in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from September 1937 to July 1940 as the successor to Ukraïns’ki robitnychi visty. The paper published articles on the labor movement and laudatory reports on developments in the USSR as well as especially strident attacks on Ukrainian ‘bourgeois nationalists’ in Canada. Editors of the paper included many of the most prominent Ukrainian-Canadian communists, among them Peter Krawchuk, Mykola Hrynchyshyn, Ivan Navizivsky, Matthew Shatulsky, and A. Bilecki. Narodna hazeta was closed down by the Canadian government for its pro-Soviet positions. From December 1940 to April 1941 Ukrainian nationalists in Canada (Mykyta Mandryka, Onufrii Hykavy, Volodymyr Bosy, and others) published Narodnia gazeta, an anti-Soviet weekly sent to former subscribers to Narodna hazeta in a bid to win their sympathies.
