Revutsky, Valeriian [Ревуцький, Валеріян; Revuc'kyj, Valerijan], b 14 June 1911 in Irzhavets, Pryluky county, Poltava gubernia, d 23 December 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Theater scholar and critic; son of Dmytro Revutsky and nephew of Lev Revutsky. He graduated from the Moscow Theater Institute (1941) and the University of Toronto (1957). He taught at the Kyiv Conservatory (1941–2), was artistic director of the Grono Kyiv Young Spectator's Theater (1942), and worked at the theater school of the Lviv Institute of Folk Culture (1943–4). Revutsky arrived in Canada in 1950 and taught at the University of British Columbia (1960–76). He is the author of Piat' velykykh avtoriv ukraïns'koï stseny (Five Great Authors of the Ukrainian Stage, 1955), P’iesy Mykoly Kulisha (The Plays of Mykola Kulish, 1956), Neskoreni berezil'tsi: Iosyp Hirniak i Olympiia Dobrovol'ska (Undefeated Berezil Actors: Yosyp Hirniak and Olimpiia Dobrovolska, 1985), a book devoted to Volodymyr Blavatsky V orbiti svitovoho teatru (In the Orbit of World Theater, 1995), and numerous articles in Entsyklopediia ukraïnoznavstva (1949–84), Ukraine: A Concise Encyclopaedia (1971), and the Encyclopedia of Ukraine. He also edited a volume on Les Kurbas (1989) and published a book of memoirs Po obriiu zhyttia (Along the Horizon of Life, 1998).
