Shramchenko, Oleksander [Шрамченко, Олександер; Šramčenko], b 26 March 1859 in Voronezh, Russian Empire, d 29 April 1921 in Kyiv. Ethnographer. After graduating from Kyiv University in 1887, he taught school in Caucasia and the Kholm region and collected ethnographic materials. From 1909 he worked in Kyiv as an associate and longtime treasurer of the Ukrainian Scientific Society, editor of its journal Ukraïna (1914–30) and its Ukraïns'kyi etnohrafichnyi zbirnyk, and scientific secretary of the Committee of the National Library of Ukraine. Some of his ethnographic materials collected in the Kholm region were published in the zbirnyk. He also translated many of Volodymyr Antonovych’s works from Russian into Ukrainian.
