Tudor, Stepan [Тудор, Степан; real surname: Олексюк; Oleksiuk], b 25 August 1892 in Ponykva, Brody county, Galicia, d 22 June 1941 in Lviv. Writer. He graduated from Lviv University in 1926. He began publishing in 1925. He was persecuted by the Polish authorities for his communist agitation. He was one of the organizers of the union of Western Ukrainian revolutionary writers Horno. In 1930 he began publishing and editing its organ, Vikna. A number of collections of his short stories have been published, including Narodzhennia (Birth, 1929), Krok u Zhovten’ (The Step to October, 1953), and Chervonyi usmikh (The Red Smile, 1960). His published novels include Mariia (1930), Moloshne bozhevillia (The Insanity of Moloch, 1930), Den' ottsia Soiky (Father Soika’s Day, 1947), Vybrane (Selections, 1949), and Tvory (Works, vols 1–2, 1962). He was killed on the first day of the German-Soviet conflict, during an aerial bombardment of Lviv.
