Neronovych, Yevhen [Неронович, Євген; Neronovyč, Jevhen], b 1888 in Pyriatyn, Poltava gubernia, d April 1918 in Sorochyntsi, Myrhorod county, Poltava gubernia. Political leader. Before the First World War he was a student activist in the Ukrainian Student Hromada in Saint Petersburg and an editor of Ukraïns'kyi student (1913). After the February Revolution of 1917 he was active in the Ukrainian Social Democratic Workers' party (USDRP) and was a member of the Central Rada and its Little Rada. He was a member of the organizing committee of the Third All-Ukrainian Military Congress, held in Kyiv in November 1917. Soon after the congress he left the Rada and came to lead the Ukrainian Social Democratic Workers' party (Independentists), which supported co-operation with the Bolsheviks. In March 1918 he briefly served as people’s secretary of war in Mykola Skrypnyk’s Bolshevik People's Secretariat in Poltava, but soon thereafter he left the government over political differences. He was captured and shot as a traitor by soldiers of the Army of the Ukrainian National Republic. In 1925 Sorochyntsi (now Velyki Sorochyntsi) was renamed Neronovychi in his honor, but the name was rescinded in 1931.
