Hrudyn, Volodymyr

Hrudyn, Volodymyr or Groudine, Vladimir [Грудин, Володимир], b 8 January 1893 in Kyiv, d 14 November 1980 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Pianist, composer, and pedagogue. A graduate of the Kyiv Conservatory (Reinhold Glière’s class) and the Odesa Conservatory, he taught music at the Kyiv Conservatory and the Lysenko Music and Drama Institute, then at the Lysenko Higher Institute of Music in Lviv, and after the Second World War in Prague, Paris, and New York. His compositions include a symphony, two orchestral and four piano suites, two concertos for piano and orchestra, two violin sonatas and one for piano, two trios, a string quartet, and some art songs. Some of his piano works were published in 1962 by Paragon.
