Rus’ka istorychna biblioteka

Rus’ka istorychna biblioteka (Руська історична бібліотека; Ruthenian Historical Library). A book series dealing with the Ukrainian history, published in Galicia in 1886–1904 (24 volumes in all). It was edited and published by Oleksander Barvinsky with the assistance of Oleksander Konysky. With Volodymyr Antonovych’s help Barvinsky developed a plan to cover the full scope of Ukrainian history. Most of the books were translations from Russian of works by Ukrainian and Russian historians, such as Antonovych, Mykola Kostomarov, Dmytro Bahalii, Mikhail Vladimirsky-Budanov, Mykola Dashkevych, Aleksandra Yefymenko, Ivan Lynnychenko, Fedir Leontovych, Ivan Novytsky, and Yakiv Shulhyn. At first the series was published in Ternopil. After vol 15 was released (1894), the Shevchenko Scientific Society assumed responsibility for publication of the series, and the other nine volumes came out in Lviv.
