Zinkivsky, Trokhym

Zinkivsky, Trokhym [Зіньківський, Трохим; Zin'kivs'kyj, Troxym; pseudonyms: Horlytsia, T. Zvizdochot, T. Pevny, P.Z., T.Z., M. Tsupky), b 4 August 1861 in Berdiansk, Tavriia gubernia, d 21 June 1891 in Berdiansk. Populist writer. He graduated from the higher military law academy in Saint Petersburg and was active in the Saint Petersburg Ukrainian Hromada. While working for the Kyiv Military District court he published poems, fables, stories, literary criticism, publicistic articles about the necessity for Ukrainian autonomy, and the play Sumlinnia (Conscience) in the Lviv periodicals Zoria (Lviv) and the journal Pravda. Published separately were his story collections Maliunky spravzhn'oho zhyttia (Pictures of Real Life, 1889), Baiky M. Tsupkoho (M. Tsupky’s Fables, 1889), and Verba i zirka (The Willow and the Star, 1890). A posthumous edition of his works (2 vols, 1893, 1896) edited by Borys Hrinchenko appeared in Lviv; it includes a major study of the Stundists in Ukraine.
