Hordiichuk, Mykola [Гордійчук Микола; Hordijčuk], b 9 May 1919 in Chornorudka, Skvyra county, Kyiv gubernia, d 2 August 1995 in Vorzel, Kyiv oblast. Ethnomusicologist. Hordiichuk was the chairman of the Department of Musicology at the Institute of Fine Arts, Folklore, and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. He wrote several monographs on prominent figures in Ukrainian music: Mykhailo Kalachevsky (1954), Mykola Leontovych (1956, 1974), Heorhii Maiboroda (1963), Platon Maiboroda (1964), and Leontovych (in Russian, 1977); as well as several surveys: Derzhavnyi ukraïns'kyi narodnyi khor (The Ukrainian State Folk Choir, 1951), Sovremennaia ukrainskaia narodnaia pesnia (The Contemporary Ukrainian Folk Song, 1964), Symfonichna muzyka (Symphonic Music, 1960, 1962), and Ukraïns'ka radians'ka symfonichna muzyka (Soviet Ukrainian Symphonic Music, 1969). Besides collecting and deciphering notations for many folk songs, he prepared a practical handbook, Iak zapysuvaty narodnu muzyku? (How to Record Folk Music? 1960).
