Zaklynsky, Bohdan [Заклинський, Богдан; Zaklyns’kyj], b 9 August 1886 in Stanyslaviv (now Ivano-Frankivsk), d 12 April 1946 in Lviv. Teacher and ethnographer; son of Roman Zaklynsky; brother of Kornylo R. Zaklynsky and Rostyslav Zaklynsky. A teacher (from 1910) in Ukrainian schools in Galicia and Transcarpathia, he prepared textbooks (including primers) and methodological works concerning styles of writing for children. While teaching in various villages, he conducted ethnographic field research, much of which remains in manuscript form in the libraries of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He also gathered items for the ethnographic museum of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv. In 1917 he wrote a popular study of Ukrainian folk dwellings (see Folk architecture), Zhytie ukraïns’koho naroda (The Life of the Ukrainian People), which was published in Vienna. From 1944 Zaklynsky worked in the Lviv branch of the Institute of Fine Arts, Folklore, and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
