Ivanets, Ivan [Іванець, Іван; Ivanec’], b 9 January 1893 in Novosilky Hostynni, Rudky county, Galicia, d 10 March 1946 in Solikamsk, Perm oblast, RSFSR. Painter and graphic artist. During the Ukrainian struggle for independence (1917–20) Ivanets headed the Press Office of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, and then served on the staff of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen as attaché on gas warfare. A graduate of the Ukrainian Studio of Plastic Arts in Prague (1927), he worked as an illustrator, mostly for the Chervona Kalyna publishing house in Lviv. In 1942–4 he was president of the Labor Association of Ukrainian Pictorial Artists in Lviv. Arrested by the Soviets in Cracow in 1945, he was deported to Solikamsk where he perished. Ivanets painted battle scenes and landscapes, and wrote many articles on world and Ukrainian art.
