Barvinkove

Barvinkove. Map: V-18.City (2001 pop 12,998) on the Sukhyi Torets River (a tributary of the Donets River), a raion center in Kharkiv oblast. Barvinkove was founded in 1680. Until 1917 it was a large village with a population of 10,000; as a result of its proximity to the Donets Basin it became a manufacturing city. Since the 1930s it has had a machine building factory, a food-processing plant, and light industry. The city has a regional ethnographic museum.
