Steshko, Fedir

Steshko, Fedir [Стешко, Федір; Steško], b 16 September 1877 in Kamianka, Sosnytsia county, Chernihiv gubernia, d 31 December 1944 in Prague. Musicologist. A lawyer by training, he worked as a judge for the Russian military court in Vladivostok before emigrating to Prague in 1920. There he completed his studies in musicology (PH D, Charles University, 1936) and lectured at the Ukrainian Free University and the Ukrainian Higher Pedagogical Institute. His published works include Dzherela do istoriï pochatkovoï doby tserkovnoho spivu v Ukraïni (Sources for the History of the Early Period of Religious Singing in Ukraine, 1929) and Českí hudebníci v ukrajinské církevní hudbě (Czech Musicians in Ukrainian Church Music, 1935) as well as articles on the history of Ukrainian music.
