Vynnytsky, Inokentii

Vynnytsky, Inokentii [Винницький, Інокентій; Vynnyc'kyj, Inokentij], b 20 February 1654 in Urizh, Sambir county, Galicia, d 11 (or 24) February 1700 in Lviv. Bishop of Peremyshl (see Peremyshl eparchy). He was ordained by Yosyf Shumliansky as the Orthodox bishop of Peremyshl in 1680, and he secretly joined the Uniate church in 1681. The public declaration of his action and the open conversion of his eparchy were delayed, however, because of Vynnytsky’s desire to be the sole Uniate bishop there. The 1691 transfer of the sitting Uniate bishop of Peremyshl, I. Malakhovsky, resolved the issue, and the whole eparchy formally joined the union in 1692 (see Church Union of Berestia). A biography of Vynnytsky by B. Balyk appeared in Analecta Ordinis S. Basilii Magni/Zapysky ChSVV (1978).
