Stavnytsky, Semen

Stavnytsky, Semen [Ставницький, Семен; Stavnyc'kyj], b ?, d 1697 in Lviv. Printer and writer. He directed the Lviv Dormition Brotherhood Press (1662–8, 1677–97) and Univ Monastery Press (1670–3, 1680), where he set and edited books and wrote introductions to them. He is also the author of a versified panegyric to Prince Volodymyr the Great, which is an adaptation of a poem by Herasym Smotrytsky from the Ostroh Bible. After Semen died his son Vasyl Stavnytsky became director of the printing press of the Lviv Dormition Brotherhood.
