Nazariiv, Oleksa

Nazariiv, Oleksa [Назаріїв, Олекса; Nazarijiv], b 19 October 1880 in Lubny, Poltava gubernia, d 1918. Political activist. A native of the Poltava region, he was involved in the clandestine gymnasium in Pryluka and became active in student organizations (including the Ukrainian Student Hromada in Saint Petersburg), the Revolutionary Ukrainian party, and the Ukrainian Social Democratic Workers' party. In 1908 he moved to Lviv, where he worked as a librarian for the Shevchenko Scientific Society (1912–13) and contributed to the press. He was a member of the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine from 1914 until his return to eastern Ukraine in 1918.
