Soroka, Petro

Soroka, Petro [Петро Сорока], b 3 April 1891 in Lviv, d 20 September 1950 in Anzhero-Suzhensk, Kemerovsk oblast, RSFSR. Stage actor and director. He began his theatrical career in an amateur group at the Sokil society (1908) and then acted in the Ukrainska Besida Theater (1912–14), the Ternopilski Teatralni Vechory Theater and the New Lviv Theater (1917–20), led his own troupe (1921–38), and worked in the Lesia Ukrainka Theater, Lviv Theater of Opera and Ballet, and Lviv Ukrainian Drama Theater (1939–46). Arrested by the NKVD in 1947, he perished in a Soviet concentration camp.
