Lutsiv, Yurii [Луців, Юрій; Luciv, Jurij], b 12 May 1931 in Lviv. Conductor. A pupil of Mykola Kolessa, he graduated from the Lviv Conservatory in 1953 and was directly engaged to conduct the symphony orchestra of the Lviv Philharmonic (1953–4 and 1960). In 1954–9 he worked in Zaporizhia. Since 1960 he has been a conductor with the Lviv Theater of Opera and Ballet (principal conductor during 1963–73) and a lecturer at the Lviv Conservatory. His productions include Borys Liatoshynsky’s opera Zolotyi obruch (The Golden Ring), Sergei Prokofiev’s ballets Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet, and Peter Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. In 1961 he toured Canada (Calgary and Edmonton).
