Stara Ukraïna
Stara Ukraïna («Стара Україна»). An illustrated monthly journal of history and culture, published in Lviv in 1924–5 by the Shevchenko Scientific Society. The journal was edited by Ivan Krevetsky, and a total of 24 issues appeared. It featured articles by Galician and émigré authors, including the historians Bohdan Barvinsky, Elie Borschak, Oleksander Barvinsky, Dmytro Doroshenko, V. Karpovych, Myron Korduba, Krevetsky, and Ivan Krypiakevych; the literary scholars Yaroslav Hordynsky, Ivan Ohiienko, Kyrylo Studynsky, Mykhailo Vozniak, and Pavlo Zaitsev; the art scholars Mykola Holubets, Petro Kholodny, Volodymyr Sichynsky, and Volodymyr Zalozetsky-Sas; and other contributors such as Volodymyr Hnatiuk, Ivan Nimchuk, and Viacheslav Zaikin. The journal also carried previously unpublished works by Ivan Franko and Oleksander Konysky. Special thematic issues were devoted to the 350th anniversary of printing in Ukraine, the grave sites of noted Ukrainian activists, Ukrainian memoir literature from the 11th to 20th centuries, and Taras Shevchenko. The journal provided a valuable chronicle of events, reviews, and bibliographies. It was the only Ukrainian historical journal in Western Ukraine. It ceased publication as a result of financial difficulties.
