Lysenko String Quartet

Lysenko String Quartet (Kvartet im. M. Lysenka). Musical instrumental ensemble formed in Kyiv in 1951 and named in honor of Mykola Lysenko in 1962. In 1989 members of the ensemble were A. Bazhenov and B. Skvortsov (violins), Yu. Kholodov (viola), and L. Krasnoshchok (cello). The ensemble has recorded works by Dmytro Bortniansky, M. Lysenko, Borys Liatoshynsky, and Vasyl Barvinsky on the Melodiya label and has performed world premieres of works by Stanyslav Liudkevych, B. Liatoshynsky, Andrii Shtoharenko, Arkadii Filipenko, Pylyp Kozytsky, and Anatol Kos-Anatolsky. The ensemble's large repertoire (more than 250 works) testifies to its creative range and its efforts to familiarize listeners with various schools and styles. The quartet is equally at home with L. van Beethoven, D. Shostakovich, Myroslav Skoryk, Yevhen Stankovych, Valentyn Sylvestrov, and Lesia Dychko.
